God’s Work. Our Hands. – September 3

2016 God’s Work. Our Hands. Day of service

As a part of the ELCA’s God’s Work. Our Hands. Atonement will again partner with Abiding Savior, Christ the King, and Cross of Glory to make a difference in the New Brighton/Mounds View community as we raise funds and receive food donations at CUB Foods in New Brighton for the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf.  We will also be gathering at Atonement to make sandwiches for Minneapolis Recreation Development, Inc. (MRD). We are a church that believes that serving together, keeps us together.

Please consider signing up for the follow volunteer opportunities:

  • 11:30-3 at Cub Foods (set-up, bag groceries, sell hotdogs, welcome shoppers, collect donations)
  • 11:30-3 at Atonement (Set-up, assemble sandwiches)

To help organize across the different churches, pick a time slot and sign up here or call the church office to volunteer.

God’s Work. Our Hands.  t-shirts are available in the narthex for purchase.  Cost is $8.

In addition, following are some recent MRD videos: Allan Law: The Teacher & The Sandwich Man & The Sandwich Man link to videos featuring MRD history, and scenes from the 2014 documentary The Starfish Throwers . NBC Nightly News also ran a 2014 feature on Allan  titled ‘Sandwich Man’ Delivers Helping of Hope to Hungry, and WCCO TV ran a story on 12/24 Homeless Christmas Eve . I encourage you to share the videos with your volunteers, because they include historical MRD footage, scenes showing Allan working on the streets at night, and insights into the homeless community being served thanks to the efforts of your group! Please give me a call at 612-803-2287 if you have any questions.
